The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) funds the MLA as its strategic adviser for museums, libraries and archives.
The MLA also works with other key government departments relevant to the work of museums, libraries and archives, in particular the:
- Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG)
- Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF)
- Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS)
