MLA Chief Executive Roy Clare has today hailed plans for a new central library in Birmingham as ‘exciting and imaginative’.
Welcoming the announcement of the design plans for the library, which will open in 2013, Roy said: “We hope to see the Library of Birmingham act as a flagship among libraries serving the communities of the city and wish the council every success with this exciting and imaginative project.”
The Library of Birmingham will occupy a prime site on Centenary Square, the city's largest public square, acting as the flagship for the regeneration of the city.
The building will provide 20% more space than the existing Birmingham Central Library, built in 1974, and will be capable of taking up to 10,000 visitors a day.
