Get it Loud in Libraries the Lancashire Libraries project which aims to get a new generation over the threshold has welcomed Hollywood actress turned singer Juliette Lewis for a sell-out show.
Her gig at Morecambe Library is arguably the most glamorous yet adding to an impressive list of pop talents who have performed for Lancashire’s youth.
Adele played Lancaster Library a year before her debut album came out while recent acts include Florence and the Machine and VV Brown.
Many library services across the country see the value of contemporary music as a way of promoting creativity and literacy in young people and the Get It Loud In Libraries team in Lancashire Libraries is one of the best at encouraging new young visitors into libraries through popular music events.
Noise in a library
Juliette Lewis, the star of Cape Fear and Natural Born Killers, agreed that it was an unusual place for a rock venue: “What's more strange and rare than books right now! I’m excited to catch up on my EE Cummings, and Rilke all before show time. Haven’t been in a library since youth. I love that we get to make noise in a library!
“The acoustics in a library are actually kind of great because its nice and warm. I feel like the some of the music I’m doing now comes out of the dark fantasies of fairy books. So it’s a good setting.”
Stewart Parsons, Get it Loud In Libraries manager said. “Libraries have the power to change lives through their delivery of culture, and the live music format is no different. I always feel people should leave a library feeling slightly better about themselves and the world than when they first went in.”
