The MLA is calling on libraries to sign up now for itea and biscuits week, which runs from 20 – 26 September 2010, and help older people in your community discover the benefits of digital technology and develop the skills and confidence to get started on their digital journey.
itea and biscuits week is a digital inclusion programme from Age UK and this year Age UK and MLA are working together to encourage more libraries to support the campaign. This is an ideal opportunity for libraries to build on their existing work and reach out to even more digitally excluded older people.
There are currently 10 million people in the UK that still do not use computers and the internet. The majority are over the age of 65 and continue to miss out on the social, financial and educational benefits of digital technologies. That’s why we need to all work together to close the digital divide.
In the lead up to itea and biscuits week, online tutorials will be available to support frontline library staff on how to share their IT skills and importantly, how to effectively communicate and support an older IT novice to get online for the first time.
