Halton Lea's state of the art library

Halton Lea Library, in Runcorn, has reopened its doors following a £1.4m revamp thanks to the Big Lottery Fund.

Among the features of the new library are a new entrance, an area for young people, a community history library, children’s library and seven meeting rooms.

The large open-plan library, set over three floors, is one of the largest in Halton and is located in the heart of Halton Lea’s main shopping area.

The new café will offer a wider menu and customers will be able to take their drinks away and enjoy them anywhere in the library.

A capsule library, for those in a hurry, is also available containing newly published books and new DVD and CD releases. State of the art technology will also allow the easy issue and return of books.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Libraries, Cllr John Swain, said: “This revamp has made Halton Lea Library a state-of-the-art library fit to face the challenges of the 21st century.”

Thanks to a joint partnership between the Fund and the MLA, grants of between £250,000 and £2m have been awarded from the Community Libraries programme to renovate, extend, or build new libraries, to offer the broadest range of facilities possible to their communities.
