VV Brown master class at Lancashire Libraries

VW Brown at Leyland LibraryHotly tipped pop act VV Brown has shared the secrets of her song writing success with teenagers at Leyland and Morecambe libraries.

The event was the latest success for Get It Loud In Libraries which has been encouraging music acts to perform at Lancashire libraries for a number of years.

In her master class VV Brown emphasised that young people shouldn’t worry about expensive kit to get started and that coming from a small town need not be a hindrance to artistic development either.

VV, whose debut album is due out later this year, drew parallels with poetry and short story writing and examined where lyrical creativity came from and how best to get them down on paper.

She also invited her young audience to ask questions about music and the industry.

Stewart Parsons, of the Get It Loud team, said: “We have long wanted to engage mainstream pop acts in other ways than straight performance and this is how the master classes came about.

“It’s a great example of libraries being used as a platform for interactive learning and creativity; the fact that a recognised artist ran the sessions only made the workshop even more enjoyable and memorable.”

VV explained her motivation for the event. “I contacted Get It Loud because I wanted to give young people a great time in a library and re-set their perceptions about what libraries do and what they stand for. It’s a route back in for those people who have lost the library habit or never had it to begin with,” she said.
