Libraries subscribe and save

The Reference Online Milestone Report shows that savings of £5.6m have been achieved for public libraries across England, over a five year period with help from the MLA. Recognising the importance for public libraries to provide and sustain subscription-based products, such as general reference material, online newspapers, and business and financial information, the MLA has acted as a national broker, working with suppliers and local authorities to achieve greater savings.

Culture cuts at the heart

If cuts fall in any of the areas which might be considered ‘cultural’ they will cut away the things that make us the best versions of who we are, says the MLA Chair. There’s going to be a lot of reasons to forget this, and a lot of pressure to deny this over the coming months and years, as local and national government goes about its necessary cost-cutting. Resist that pressure. Argue it away.

Export bar on photograph

Culture Minister has placed an export bar on a rare photograph by the pioneering nineteenth-century British photographer Roger Fenton providing a last chance to raise the money to keep the image in this country.
