The MLA and Local Government The MLA Partnership works closely with a range of stakeholders to ensure that our sector is taken into account in terms of local government and communities policy development, and to ensure that our sector is contributing to outcomes in these policy areas. Nationally, MLA works with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and other government departments, including the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) who are responsible for local government policy. We also work with national local government bodies such as the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA). In addition, we work with sectoral and professional bodies. The MLA works directly with local authorities as appropriate, and also seek to influence the regional strategic context, particularly Regional Economic Strategies and Regional Spatial Strategies, which are important to many agendas and often frame local delivery.
