Workforce Development
MLA has an ambitious agenda relating to workforce development. We
take it seriously as a fundamental issue facing museums,
archives and libraries. We strongly believe that the
sector's impact and our ability to realise the ambitious change
necessary to provide a truly world-class service to our users
depends on the 80,000 plus staff who work in it. Therefore, MLA
has developed a national workforce development
strategy for use as an action plan to enable museums,
libraries and archives to meet the challenge of delivering truly
21st century services. The strategy is arranged under four key
priorities:
Leadership and skills
Workforce composition
Empowering learning and change
Research
As part of this initiative, MLA is now working with a leading
training provider, FPM, to provide development opportunities for
current and aspiring leaders in our sector.
Partners
MLA works with many partners and stakeholders, such as the Sector Skills Councils , both
to implement the actions identified within the strategy, and to
ensure that initiatives undertaken in the field of workforce
development within the sector have a clear link to the overall
strategy. We are grateful to our many partners for their
co-operative and participative approach to assisting us in
implementing the workforce development strategy. Links to many
of our key partners can be found on our Links pages.
