Museums standards overseas: From Australia to Zanzibar Throughout the world there are many standards, guidelines and quality assurance schemes in operation. In 2001, Resource commissioned a mapping of international standards and guidelines relevant to the museums domain which would consider how any of these schemes might usefully inform the development of the Registration scheme. The word 'Standards' is not to be interpreted here in a narrow sense. It includes any museums standards or accreditation schemes used abroad in Europe, North America or Australasia, whether voluntary or obligatory; schemes that are sector wide and beyond, eg Visitor Attraction schemes; relevant professional standards; voluntary or statutory codes of practice and guidelines in museums. The work was carried out by Timothy Mason and Jane Weeks, and the report was published by MLA in 2002. From Australia to Zanzibar: Research project on museums standards oversea (PDF 800KB)
