Digital Initiatives

MLA is involved in a wide range of  initiatives in the field of digital information, acting as a funder, managing agency or expert adviser. This includes work in the following areas:

Strategically, MLA is working to build the Knowledge Web , which will enhance the existing investment in the creation of digital content, and, for users, shorten the journey between their question and the answer.

Significant current projects are:

  • The People's Network Service - the first ever customer facing online presence representing all of England's public libraries, offering added value nationally produced online services where anyone can Enquire for instant answers from skilled staff, Discover their own way into the web and get into a good Read .
  • Reference Online - part of  Framework for the Future programme which provides a testbed for developing good practice in the procurement of commercial electronic products and services. Agreements have been brokered by MLA on behalf of public libraries in England with 14 suppliers for 26 online products and services.
