Public Libraries Graphics System
A graphic style has been created to support the marketing plan for public libraries. This will help us to create a family of materials nationally and it can also be used by libraries in England to produce posters, leaflets, presentations to match these. It complements the People's Network (PN) Marketing Toolkit
which has been produced to help libraries market PN services locally.
We appreciate that each local authority has its corporate style and that some library services have developed strong brand images in their own right. The graphics are not meant to replace these but they may be useful if you have no fixed design rules within your service, or if you are producing materials as part of a national initiative, for example, Local Democracy Week or the recruitment campaign.
The graphics are designed to be easy to use and they are based on font styles and programmes that most people will already have on their computers. The resource comprises a suite of public library branded artwork files and accompanying brand guidelines which provide all the information and tools needed to produce promotional materials locally.
The resources have been produced on CD (which contain both the PLGS and PN Marketing Toolkit) and one copy is being issued to all local authorities in England over the next couple of weeks in addition to being available from this web page.
The
Public Libraries Graphics System Guidelines (PDF 899KB)
explain how to use the resources made available. Please read these guidelines before you attempt to use any of the resources.
Folder and file formats
Files are split into folders for ease of use, and have been compressed as zip files to enable easy downloading. If you are unable to
unzip folders you can download freeware to enable you to do so. See the section on download formats
in the staff room on the People's Network website for further information.
Files are provided in EPS format. When creating your own materials, you may not be able to open an EPS file, depending upon which software you use and your knowledge of creating and editing these file formats. You will, however, be able to import it into your layouts (e.g. MS Word documents). If necessary, refer to your software instruction guide about importing images.
