People's Network Media Relations Toolkit

MLA has led a number of PR activities in recent years to coincide with the completion of the People's Network infrastructure programme. The project - one of the largest every ICT initiatives of its kind - was delivered on time and in budget and MLA was keen to celebrate this success and acknowledge the efforts and determination of the library community in making this happen.

Part of the communications programme included the development of a Media Relations Toolkit designed to help individual libraries and library authorities to promote the People's Network to the local press. Whilst this particular communications campaign has now come to an end and some of the information contained within it is now superseded, many of the principles contained within this toolkit remain useful to library services. It includes a complete 'how to' guide to conducting media relations activities and includes useful resources such as template press releases and letters to decision makers promoting the People's Network initiative.

If you are carrying out PR and promotional activities you may also be interested in our People's Network film case studies which were produced to showcase the positive impact the People's Network is having on people's lives and the People's Network leaflet (PDF 195KB) format: pdf .

More recently (Oct 2005) MLA has launched another PN campaign which this time is consumer facing to coincide with the launch of three new national online public library services through the PN website called Enquire, Discover and Read. MLA has produced a marketing offer to support libraries as they promote these services to the public. Visit the marketing section of the PN online staff room to find out more.
