Data collection

Collecting core audience and other data is important for all museums. Rising visit figures may not tell the whole story, but they are certainly indicative of thriving museums that are increasingly satisfying the needs of the people who use them.

Data collection guidelines - hubs

Guidance has been written to ensure that all hubs are counting the same things in the same way. This guidance helps the Renaissance team to ensure that a scrupulous approach is taken to ensuring the comparability and accuracy of the data.

Data collection guidelines – Designated collections

In 2006, Renaissance funding was made available for non-hub museums holding Designated collections to allow them to collect and collate core audience and other data, in line with the process already in place for hub museums. Guidelines for this data collection are below.
