Reference Online

Reference Online is a subscription-based electronic service for English public libraries.  You will find information about the agreements for electronic products and services brokered by MLA on behalf of English public libraries on these pages.

As a result of EU tendering twenty-two suppliers became part of the Framework Agreement offering general reference material, online newspapers, and business and financial information. The Framework Agreement is available for use by English public libraries over a period of 4 years from April 2008 to March 2012.

Product List

Go to the Product List page which provides an overview of all the resouces for which agreements have been secured.  There are different types of service: general reference materials, online newspapers, and business and financial information.  Each product has a page describing it and a further page giving information on how to subscribe and any discount arrangements that have been agreed.

Further information

The Framework Agreement requires use of a  format: docModel Licence (Word 92KB) and format: doc Pricing Schedule (Word 31KB) between suppliers and library services. Please note that some suppliers have appended this with changed schedules. Always check first with the supplier if any changes to the model licence have been agreed with MLA. In most cases, these schedules will appear on the relevant supplier pages.

More detail on the background and development of the Reference Online programme can been found in the further information section.
