Museums, libraries and archives across the country will offer everyone the opportunity to be involved in the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Last autumn, MLA Partnership published a prospectus setting out our vision for the contribution of museums, libraries and archives to the Cultural Olympiad. Setting the Pace was itself the product of extensive consultation with our sector, and the responses were distilled into concrete proposals for these five exciting projects. Our ambition is that our sector’s engagement with the Cultural Olympiad through Setting the Pace will lead to a transformation in the way people experience the inspiration, learning and creativity museum, library and archive collections generate. Increasing participation by non-traditional audiences – particularly young people, black and minority ethnic communities and people with disabilities – is a core target for this programme. MLA has funded three streams of activities to work with the Cultural Olympiad. We will produce regular communications to keep you updated on programme progress. You can find the latest news below. Grant schemes The grant schemes that MLA recently announced have now closed. Thank you to everyone who applied. More opportunities to get involved in Stories of the World and Setting the Pace will be available over the next four years. Please keep an eye on these pages for new of developments. Stories of the World Stories of the World is one of the ten major projects at the heart of the Cultural Olympiad, led by MLA in partnership with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). It will entail a series of exhibitions across the country, featuring collections reinterpreted by communities, historians, artists and other fresh voices. Strategic direction for the programme is provided by a Project Board, chaired by Dame Liz Forgan, and reporting to LOCOG. Liz Forgan describes the programme in her Vision Statement. Stories of the World will be delivered by a limited number of Core Delivery partners, forming a UK-wide network. The Core Delivery Partners will be selected by the Project Board at the start of 2009, after they have submitted a proposal against the programme criteria. Core Delivery Partners will be able to work with a wider pool of “Local Delivery Partners”, to cooperate on activities under linked programme themes. The programme criteria sets out the programme’s theme, methodology, structure, timetable and application process. Please use the proposal form to submit your proposal by midday on 19 December 2008. We would like to work with you to support the development of strong proposals to form a coherent programme. Please contact Isobel Siddons to discuss your emerging ideas, as she can explain more background about the programme framework.
