Teaching outside the classroom (TOTC)

Developing inspirational learning experiences for trainee teachers in settings other than schools

Teaching Outside the Classroom aims to increase learning experiences and opportunities of children and young people by brokering quality placements for trainee teachers in settings other than schools. See Twilight network events below.

Introduction to inspiring learning for all (ILFA) - morning sessions

This half-day workshop will offer insight into the core concepts of ILFA, with tangible examples of how ILFA can be used in practice. An overview of the Generic Learning Outcomes (GLOs) and Generic Social Outcomes (GSOs) will be provided.

Morning sessions run from 10.00am to 12.30pm, unless otherwise indicated.

Inspiring learning for all and insight guided practice - afternoon sessions

These half day workshops are designed to be a clear progression for participants in the previous programme, or for others with previous leadership development experience. With new materials and ideas, the workshop sessions will provoke more in-depth and challenging discussion combined with practical skills and ideas to take away.

Afternoon sessions run from 2.00pm to 4.30pm, unless otherwise indicated.

Leadership half day essentials - morning sessions

Designed to provide an insight into the core concepts of leadership in the cultural sector, and with a strong emphasis on networking, these workshopswill cover the basic propositions of defining leadership and discussing leadership styles, as well as participating in some core leadership simulations.

For learning professionals who have little or no previous experience of leadership development.

Morning sessions run from 10.00am to 12.30pm, unless otherwise indicated.

Leadership half day next steps - afternoon sessions

These half day workshopsare designed to be a clear progression for participants in the previous programme, or for others with previous leadership development experience. With new materials and ideas, the workshop sessions will provoke more in-depth and challenging discussion combined with practical skills and ideas to take away.

Focusing on key themes of leadership including the ideas of passion, curiosity, insight and courage and end with a clear "manifesto" action planning tool.

Afternoon sessions run from 2.00pm to 4.30pm, unless otherwise indicated

Teaching outside the classroom (TOTC) - twilight sessions

These twilight networking events will give you the opportunity to:

  • discover the benefits of trainee teachers working in cultural settings at the start of their careers
  • find out more about how Teaching Outside the Classroom can support you to develop effective and sustainable partnerships
  • network with cultural educators, Initial Teacher Training providers and other professionals from across the Children’s Workforce

Twilight sessions run from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, unless otherwise indicated.
