SHARE assistance

SHARE logoSHARE Assistance is delivered in two main ways:

 • Advice given directly by SHARE Advisers and
 • Assignments which involve brokering in support from hub museum / Sainsbury Centre staff

SHARE Advice

Advice is delivered by the SHARE Advisers as part of their daily job. For some – like Museum Development Officers, Learning Development Officers, and the Renaissance Regional Conservation Officers – supporting wider museums is 100% of their role.

How do I access advice?
Contact a SHARE Adviser:
Advice can cover anything from straightforward enquiries to site visits and more in-depth work and can be arranged directly with the SHARE Advisers.

SHARE Assignments

If the area of support you require is outside the expertise of the SHARE Advisers, they can broker in specialist help from the hub museums and the Sainsbury Centre to undertake an assignment with you. This could range from half a day’s work to more substantial projects lasting days or even weeks. This includes the SHARE FACE2FACE service which offers one to one consultations with experts on a range of issues including specific collections, access, marketing and sustainability.

What kinds of assignments can I use SHARE for?
Almost anything! Since launch, over 60 SHARE assignments have got underway, covering all areas of museums work, including specialist curatorial expertise, marketing and publicity, collections management and documentation, governance and management, forward planning, schools and family learning, retail advice and many others. Other kinds of opportunities such as work-shadowing and mentoring are also available.

How do I access assignment support?
Contact a SHARE Adviser:
They will discuss what you’d like and will then fill in a SHARE Assignment Proposal form with you (you can download a copy below). This is sent to Simon Floyd, Training and Workforce Development Officer in the Renaissance East of England office, who will identify the most appropriate person to undertake the work.

Click on the flow chart below to see how the process works:

If you’ve got a bright idea or need some support, the chances are SHARE will be able to help – just ask!

Responsibilities transfer

From 1st October 2011, this site will not be updated, so please treat it as the static archive it is. This is because Arts Council England has now taken over museums and libraries responsibilities. The National Archives has assumed responsibility for strategic leadership of the Archives sector. Arts Council responsibilities will also now include the Renaissance programme, Museum Accreditation, and Library Development, together with cultural property services such as Export Licensing and the Acceptance in Lieu scheme. The National Archives has assumed responsibility for providing strategic leadership to the archives sector and advising government on its development. The MLA is now winding down, with a skeleton staff remaining until May 2012 to complete the management of existing Renaissance contracts, complete outstanding financial and contractual arrangements and prepare for the appointment of a liquidator. This website will remain live until 31st March so that the public still has full access to the material on it – good practice case studies, toolkits, guidance and a range of other publications. Continue reading
