London Museums Hub Volunteer Training Bank

The London Museums Hub Volunteer Management Project is working to support museums across London with volunteer involvement. One of the needs that was identified by the Hub was the provision of basic training for volunteers in museums. The project has successfully provided a programme of free training for volunteers and the training materials developed are now available to download here for museums who want to run their own in-house training.

The following guide aims to help museum staff, or volunteers who are managing other volunteers, to use the London Museums Hub Online Training Bank even if they have no previous experience of delivering formal training. London Museums Hub delivered “train-the-trainer” courses, and this written guidance comes out of the learning from the trainer and participants. Click here to download the guide.

Arts Council responsibilities will also now include the Renaissance programme, Museum Accreditation, and Library Development, together with cultural property services such as Export Licensing and the Acceptance in Lieu scheme. The National Archives has assumed responsibility for providing strategic leadership to the archives sector and advising government on its development. The MLA is now winding down, with a skeleton staff remaining until May 2012 to complete the management of existing Renaissance contracts, complete outstanding financial and contractual arrangements and prepare for the appointment of a liquidator. This website will remain live until 31st March so that the public still has full access to the material on it – good practice case studies, toolkits, guidance and a range of other publications.  Continue reading
