People's Record

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a once in a lifetime event that needs to be recorded for posterity. Since 2008 MLA has supported a network of museum, library and archive led projects supporting community groups to have their say and tell their stories. During 2010 MLA will launch an online space to showcase and sustain the results as part of a comprehensive archival, material and digital record of the Games.

During 2010/11 MLA is supporting a further 19 partnership projects which explore the following themes:

  • Health, Sport and Wellbeing
  • Changing Places
  • Young People's Aspirations

Projects will discover and create community records: documents, photographs, film, oral history and artwork.

Celebrations, controversies and debates will be uncovered and recorded to show what it means to all kinds of people, when the nation hosts an Olympic and Paralympic Games

The Record

The National Archives, in partnership with MLA and the British Library, is leading a coordinated records management programme to generate a comprehensive archive and support efficient delivery of the Games.

Museums Collecting Strategy

We are working to bring together the museums network, sports associations and other key bodies. The strategy will ensure a comprehensive collection is housed in appropriate museums and made available for future generations.
