We publish a large range of publications, including reports, booklets, guides and leaflets, available for download in electronic format either as Word documents or as PDFs (Portable Document Format) for which you can obtain a free Acrobat Reader.

In 2008/09 AIL has ensured that a wider range of wonderful paintings and archives has entered the collection of the nation for the enjoyment and pleasure of all.

Annual Report of the Reviewing Committee
Following recommendations by the Committee, temporary export bars were placed on 25 cases of cultural significance which came before the Committee between 1 May 2008 and 30 April 2009. Of these, nine items led to purchases and will remain in the United Kingdom.

The People's Record
The People's Record publication is a unique archive of people's opinions about hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Grants are still available to museums, libraries and archives working in partnership with community groups to explore these opinions in more depth.

Stories of the world
As London prepares to welcome the world in 2012, major museums and libraries across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are preparing to host an unprecedented exploration of our past. Stories of the World, one of the major projects of the four-year London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, is a series of exciting exhibitions that will reconnect museum collections with the people and communities that they came from.

A Passion for Excellence – One Year On

Acceptance in Lieu Report 2007-8
Acquired in this year: portraits by artists such as Bartel Beham, Batoni, Liotard, Ramsay and Watts, a fragment of a painting by Memling, a great Venetian scene by Carlevarijs and watercolours by Turner, a Gothic mirror from Horace Walpole’s Strawberry Hill, one of Nelson’s shirts and the chair from his cabin on board HMS Victory, some of the contents of five National Trust houses as well as fine paintings from Kiplin Hall, and a number of important archives.

MLA Corporate Plan 2008 to 2011 sets out our aspirations for the sector and our role in achieving them. It gives an overview of the far-reaching reorganisation designed to enable a ‘new MLA’ to emerge stronger and braver: to win a reputation for effectiveness at a national level; to be strong in the English regions; and to acquire capacities that extend both our national and international relationships.
