Regional Plans

In 2008 the then Culture Minister, Margaret Hodge, announced the outcomes of a review of the delivery of regional priorities relating to culture and sport.

This review gave the four main DCMS-sponsored Non-Departmental Public Bodies – Arts Council England, English Heritage, Sport England and MLA – a duty to work together to deliver four shared priorities. These are:

  • Regional strategies
  • Local government engagement
  • Liaison with LOCOG over the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Cultural Olympiad
  • Place Shaping.

In each English region (except London) the four agencies have produced a plan setting out how they will deliver commitments under these priorities. These plans describe how MLA will be working jointly with our partners, and which partner will be the lead for particular areas of work. Each plan is a living document, which is regularly updated to reflect changing circumstances.

The MLA Field Team will play a key role in the delivery of regional priorities through these plans. For further information on the plans in each region, and how MLA works regionally, contact your local Field Team.
