Module 6

Scope

This module could be undertaken by an individual library manager but would be best run as a team activity with the tasks allocated between group members and if possible in partnership with other external service providers.

Learning Objective

To design, implement and evaluate a new outreach service or activity.

  • Increase in knowledge and awareness of partners, stakeholders, suppliers, organisations, agencies and other service providers

Learning Activity

This learning activity requires you to examine the services you already offer and consult with a range of disabled people in order to identify any gaps in provision which an outreach service or activity could remedy. Then design, implement and evaluate a new outreach service or activity. The involvement of partners from an external service or group would be particularly beneficial.

Task 3

Download a Task 3 pro forma to aid outreach topic selection. Keep an open mind. A topic for development may seem daunting, but by selecting appropriate partners with the right expertise, you could meet the need. To help select partners use the Building Creative Learning Partnerships Checklist from the Inspiring Learning for All website. Its focus is learning, but it could easily be adapted to suit any topic. The step-by-step guide on how to build your partnership from the Books Connect website is also useful. http://www.artsandlibraries.org.uk . Responsibilities transfer

From 1st October 2011, this site will not be updated, so please treat it as the static archive it is. This is because <a target="_Blank" href="http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/">Arts Council England</a> has now taken over museums and libraries responsibilities. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/">The National Archives</a> has assumed responsibility for strategic leadership of the Archives sector. Arts Council responsibilities will also now include the Renaissance programme, Museum Accreditation, and Library Development, together with cultural property services such as Export Licensing and the Acceptance in Lieu scheme. The National Archives has assumed responsibility for providing strategic leadership to the archives sector and advising government on its development. The MLA is now winding down, with a skeleton staff remaining until May 2012 to complete the management of existing Renaissance contracts, complete outstanding financial and contractual arrangements and prepare for the appointment of a liquidator. This website will remain live until 31st March so that the public still has full access to the material on it – good practice case studies, toolkits, guidance and a range of other publications.  Continue reading
